ADULT: Wingspan - 30 - 37mm. A rare moth that is generally grey in colour with the forewings crossed by 4 white lines. The chocolate blotch at the tip of the forewing is darker than in the Chocolate Tip and extends beyond the outer most of these lines. Near the trailing corner there are also found two blackish spots, one large and one smaller. CHRYSALIS: Overwinters as a pupa which is located in between leaves of foodplant. LARVA: Feeds on grey willows. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Found in scrubby areas on and around shingle. FLIGHT PERIOD: 2 generations - April to May and again on July to August. STATUS: Rare and restricted to small localities in southern Britain. |
